Event Details

Islamophobia is more than just offensive remarks - it’s a form of bigotry that shows up as hate crimes, media bias, and institutional discrimination. Almost 40% of religious hate crimes in 2024 targeted Muslims and current trends show that there was a 19% increase in religious hate crimes targeted at Muslims, with a spike in these offences seen at the time of the Southport murders and subsequent disorder, highlighting the urgent need for awareness and action.

To mark Islamophobia Awareness Month, the Liberal Democrat London network invite you to this webinar panel discussion exploring current and future efforts to combat racism and Islamophobia in the UK.

In our quest for a fairer and equal Britain where everyone can flourish and engage in public life free from discrimination, this panel will cover the latest insights from anti-racism campaigners, victim support service providers and British Muslim community perspectives in light of recent developments in the current political climate.

Please join the London Liberal Democrats and MCB Webinar to highlight Islamophobia Awareness Month with Hina Bokhari OBE AM, one of the first Muslim women elected to the London Assembly.

Guests:

  1. Chair: Hina Bokhari, Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member
  2. Naomi Green, Assistant Secretary General, Muslim Council of Britain
  3. Majid Iqbal, CEO, Islamophobia Response Unit
  4. James Kingett, North East Education Education Team Manager, Show Racism the Red Card

This event is open to all, everyone is welcome.
