Event Details
A new age of imperialism is under way in Africa, driven by Chinese greed and Russian thuggishness. The West, distracted and timid, is losing ground. And Africans are losing out as their natural resources are plundered and human rights crushed. The huge potential of the African century is at risk as democracy shrivels. The result will be misery, migration, environmental destruction and a game-changing win for the worst regimes in the world.
Rebecca— Becky to her friends — started Waging Peace, a human rights charity, after visiting Darfur at the height of the genocide in 2004. She is a former BBC reporter and the author of When the Stars Fall to Earth, a novel about Sudan. She is also the founder of Network for Africa a humanitarian charity providing psychotherapy support in post-conflict countries.
Becky and our candidate Edward Lucas have been friends since they were both in the Young Liberals in 1980. Becky is a lifelong Lib Dem, and former parliamentary candidate. Don't miss their insightful and provocative discussion!
