With a brutal war raging on Europe’s border, John Sweeney has become a familiar figure reporting from Ukraine, switching between his trademark orange hat and a helmet depending on his proximity to Russian snipers. A veteran reporter of numerous conflicts, John has been investigating Vladimir Putin’s crimes for many years, and has written extensively about the threat Russia and other authoritarian regimes around the world pose to liberal democratic values in the West.
He will talk about how it is vital to our security that we support Ukraine in their fight for freedom against Russia, followed by a Q&A session.
John Sweeney is a journalist, author and broadcaster who has worked for The Observer as well as the BBC on the Panorama and Newsnight programmes. In addition to writing and reporting extensively about Russia and Vladimir Putin, he was the reporter in the 2015 Panorama investigation into the Post Office Horizon scandal – the first mainstream news programme to investigate the issue. He’s written 15 books including the Sunday Times best-seller, Killer In The Kremlin. John will be speaking in a personal capacity, and can be expected to discuss issues in his typically robust style!
