Event Details
Britain locks up more people than any other European country — yet fails to deter or rehabilitate criminals. Meanwhile Conservative and Labour politicians trade gimmicky slogan about ever-tougher sentencing. The result is a grotesque waste of public money, shameful cruelty and a system that leaves us all less safe.
Nick Ross CBE, a leading broadcaster and author, has specialised in criminal justice for years. After his Crimewatch co-presenter, Jill Dando, was murdered in 1999, he founded a major independent research institute, now part of University College London. He advocates an evidence-based approach to criminology: “crime science”.
Nick and our parliamentary candidate Edward Lucas were BBC colleagues and share a fierce commitment to modernising and reforming Britain. Please join us for an evening of debate and discussion.
